RICKENBACKER AND MADELEINE STRINGS ACOUSTIC GUITARS
THE BUILD PROCESS
BODY ASSEMBLY
This slide show follows roughly a step-by-step progression.
Slides advance every 10 seconds, but you can also go forward or backward using the arrows on each slide.
LOOKING AT THE INSIDE OF A JUMBO BODY WITH THE TOP GLUED INTO PLACE. BRIDGE PLATE HAS BEEN FITTED BELOW THE "X" BRACE. SOUND HOLE ON THIS ONE HAS NOT BEEN BOUND YET.
TOP AND BACK ARE GLUED SEPARATELY, CLAMPED WITH CORK-PADDED "SPOOL" CLAMPS.
BODY HAS BEEN FLIPPED, SHOWING "SPOOL" CLAMPS FROM BOTTOM. THESE DON'T NEED A LOT OF TIGHTENING, BUT AS A GROUP THEY EXERT TREMENDOUS PRESSURE.
BODY WITH CLAMPS REMOVED. THE TOP AND BACK ARE STILL IN THEIR OVERSIZED, ROUGH-TRIMMED STATE. FINAL TRIMMING IS DONE WITH A TRACER ROUTER.
THE FINAL-TRIMMED BODY STILL NEEDS MUCH WORK: BINDING, NECK DOVETAIL, BOTTOM "FLASH" MUST BE CUT AND FITTED. THIS BECAME THE "BLUEBURST" JUMBO WHICH WAS USED TO RECORD THE ACOUSTIC SOUND SAMPLES.
BACK OF THE "BLUEBURST" 700C JUMBO. SLIGHT DISCREPANCIES IN GLUE JOINT ARE TYPICALLY ROUTED AWAY WHEN FITTING BINDING.
