NECK THROUGH 4080 IN DEEP VINTAGE FIREGLO

After building and restoring quite a few 4080s of various vintages, one thing stands out for me—the undesirable flexibility of the necks on more than one of them. The necks on these problem children must be treated gingerly or they go out of tune.

The obvious solution is to build the 4080 model with similar geometry, but with necks that go all the way through the body. The very first one of these was constructed for Al Cisneros (Sleep, Om) to replace the green set-neck that we originally built for him some years back. That new iteration proved to be much stronger than the green burst 4080.

Here’s a recent build that is as much of a knockout as Al’s Vintage White neck-through, but has a whole different flavor. There’s nary a millimeter of checkerboard to be seen (Al’s is dripping with those little buggers…), but somehow there’s no lack of visual appeal, due no doubt to the striking paint scheme—a deep Vintage Fireglo—and the glossy black pick guards, which set off the genuine Rickenbacker chrome to great effect!

Enjoy inspecting the details…

This beautiful double neck really glows in early morning sunlight!
