LUIS DIAS' 1965 360/12 PARTIAL RESTORATION/PRESERVATION PROJECT

LUIS, WHO PASSED AWAY IN 2009 AT THE AGE OF 57, WAS KNOWN AS "THE FATHER OF DOMINICAN MUSIC"

The project's scope was to clean and preserve Luis' 360/12 while not compromising its hardworking aura. The entire instrument was disassembled and location of each screw noted. The paintwork was carefully cleaned with distilled water and microfiber cloths, and the fretboard was gently scrubbed of years of dingy accumulation of grime. Correct tuners were fitted. and the broken tailpiece was replaced with a suitable patinated item. Work was contracted by the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, Arizona, USA.
